Earlier this month, in S1:E6 of The B Spot Podcast, I offered my best tips for coaching Youth Baseball Ages 14-18 (and for ages 8-13).
As a travel ball coach for over 30 years, it's always been my goal for this age group to build players with character and confidence, while also recognizing the transformational role of us, as coaches, in guiding our youth athletes through the challenges and failures, as well as the successes the game of baseball presents.
So, here you go...all my best tips for coaching this age group...

Youth Baseball Coaching Tips (Ages 14-18):
Create a Winning Mindset
Develop Moving to the Larger Field
Develop Player Leadership
Teach Consistent, Daily Routines
The Value of Trust... Both Ways
Embrace Hard... Life's Not Fair
Learn How to Have the Difficult Conversations
Male Culture More Important Than Strictly Wins/Losses... aka Don't Bring Dipshits onto Your Team
Your Goal as a Coach is to be Transformational, Not Transactional
If you create a culture for your team that includes these things, you're on your way to being a positive role model in your players' lives. And at the end of the day, as a coach, it's always our goal and intention to develop great young men... through the game of baseball.
And it's that last item in my list above - Being Transformational, Not Transactional - in your players' lives that will make you be remembered long past the last time a player plays for you. Remembered in a wonderful way...
